Document Title: Blessing
This is not a transcribed sermon.
This is a listing of thoughts presented in a form that can be used to have the Holy Spirit guide into a message.
Pastor Chris used these thoughts to present the message on the date mentioned and subsequent dates at other locations.

A Blessing, what is it?
Simple enough question you might say, but what is the answer.
Some might say when my parents say that they were happy with the choice of my spouse, that was a blessing.
Others might say, the discount at the store was a blessing.
Or they might say, you are a blessing.
They might even think that pastor Chris's teachings are a blessing, however, that in my opinion might be a little far-fetched.
Websters' Dictionary tells us that a blessing is the act or words of one that blesses.
A blessing is a thing conducive to happiness or welfare.
And Yes indeed the grace said at meals.
What do our Jewish brothers and sisters say about a blessing?
To get an understanding of this we need to look at the book of numbers, especially the second part of this which is called the Parashat Naso.
This is the Torah's most challenging passage and at the same time also one of the most beautiful ones.
The blessing of the Priest in Numbers 6:22-27 is one of the most ancient texts of the Torah and is one of the oldest known texts currently still in use.
So let us look at this text more closely before we are going to have a look at other blessings in the bible, but especially before we will bless our spouses and our children.
This is the most important part of today's message, the understanding of the blessing and the why of being blessed AND blessing one and another.
There has been much discussion and questions on just the opening sentence of the text of this priestly blessing. One that is been in use for many generations and spoken over congregations all over the world.
The discussion is focused on the power to bless people, and the question, of this, is a correct interpretation of the “The Lord, shall” or “May the Lord”.
As we are as Christians grafted into the tree of the root of Jesse, through Yeshua this blessing is not just for people of Hebrew descent but for all God's people. Judaic, Messianic, and Christian alike.
It is not a question of who enters heaven, it is not a question of being right or wrong, it is a question of who is walking in a covenant with God Almighty (El Shaddai).
So let us have this understanding then first that a blessing of the Lord is for all those that love, obey and follow Him.
So then for us, this question of The Lord shall, or May the Lord is pretty important.
When I moved my focus on the what of the blessing I first started to look at how the World was looking at this word, and searched on the internet dictionaries and came to the conclusion that Mr. Webster, who was a godly man, should have more to say then just;
blessing noun: Approval that allows or helps you to do something, or help and approval from God, or something that brings you happiness, or what about grace said at a meal.
So back to the old fashion paper version.
Then you suddenly will see the other words around it, and when Mike brought me the good ole paper version the first thing I saw was Blessed: enjoying happiness: specifically: enjoying the bliss of heaven.
When I read that indeed, my eyes were opened and I said yes, if somebody asks me what a blessing is, then that should be the answer.
If you are a blessing, you are sharing with them the bliss of heaven upon your life.
Do you know what I mean the bliss, the complete happiness, that is called JOY?
When we celebrate the birth of Jesus we do not sing happiness to the world, we sing JOY to the world.
Happiness is something we have from earthly entertainment and goods, but Joy that comes from the Ruach Ha'Kodesh, the Holy Spirit is the one who provides Joy.
Galatians 5:22-23 (CJB)
22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 humility, self-control. Nothing in the Torah stands against such things.
Isn't it interesting how we keep on coming back to this text each and every time we learn something new?
We can have happiness all our lives, but to have real happiness, which we call JOY we need to have it received from the Holy Spirit and carry this as part of the fruit.
When Jesus was born the Joy of heaven had come down on earth.
When God blessed in old or in new testament times the Joy of heaven was given, heaven is opened to show the
bliss of heaven.
When we then look at the scripture of the Birkat Kohanim in the book of Numbers we read.
Numbers 6:23-27 (CEB)
23 Tell Aaron and his sons: You will bless the Israelites as follows. Say to them:
24 The Lord bless you and protect you.
25 The Lord make his face shine on you and be gracious to you.
26 The Lord lift up his face to you and grant you peace.
27 They will place my name on the Israelites, and I will bless them.

When we read verses 23 and 27 it reads;
Tell Aaron and his sons: You will bless the Israelites as follows. And then in verse 27, They will place my name on the Israelites, and I will bless them.
By blessing them the priests in olden times and the pastors/ministers/leaders of the congregation they show them the bliss of heaven upon their lives.
All the goodness of God, the Grace, the Mercy, the Truth coming from God the Father, the outpouring of the Holy Spirit.
All these wonderful gifts of grace, Glory to God are being seen in God's Blessing.
The Lord bless you and protect you.
God's mercy and grace will be upon you and you are under His wings, you are under His protection.
The Lord make his face shine on you and be gracious to you.
When the Lord shines His face upon you, you are walking in His light, you are being noticed and He extends His grace upon you, forgiving you for your wrongdoings and gives another chance. No, my friends, it is not just forgiving of the sins, It is more the words, what do you mean what sins.
It is like they never existed, that is what God's grace does to the sinner who walks in His light in full repentance of their sins.
The Lord lift up his face to you and grant you peace.
Wow you know what that means, the Lord will place His focus on you, He addresses you personally, His spirit is directed into you, the Holy Spirit, the Ruach Ha'Kodesh and He just not give you some time of rest, a respite, that what we call peace, no Glory to God HE will give you Shalom.
Shalom; the absence of;
war, the absence of illness, the absence of strive, the absence of nervousness, the absence of hate, resentment, bitterness, depression, melancholy, sadness, restlessness, torment, trauma, impatience, frustration, selfishness, cruelty, moral impurities, adulteries, sorceries, lying anger, temper strive, YES Halleluyah the absence of all demonic influence,
full circle, not just happiness He will give you JOY!!!!
That my dear friends are what a blessing is all about.
When the blessing of the Lord is upon you in such a way you are filled with joy, you possess happiness, you will be more than successful in your relationships, your leadership role, your job, your community, and your church.
Your children will want to have what you have, your spouse will love you with a love that was previously unknown to you and which goes way beyond what anybody could ever describe to you.
That is why a blessing is so important.
That is why we read so many times about blessings in the bible.
That is why we share the blessing of the Lord upon the congregation each and every Sunday.
Genesis 12:1-5 (CEB)
The Lord said to Abram, “Leave your land, your family, and your father’s household for the land that I will show you. 2 I will make of you a great nation and will bless you. I will make your name respected, and you will be a blessing.
3 I will bless those who bless you,
    those who curse you I will curse;
all the families of the earth
will be blessed because of you.” 4 Abram left just as the Lord told him, and Lot went with him. Now Abram was 75 years old when he left Haran. 5 Abram took his wife Sarai, his nephew Lot, all of their possessions, and those who became members of their household in Haran; and they set out for the land of Canaan.
This is a blessing that God gave to Avraham and at the same time included the clause for all other nations to be blessed.
It is a tex
t that is being thought of in most Pentecostal and charismatic churches.
Unfortunately a whole lot less in the liturgical churches.
Our nation and churches would do so much better as our country and its people would be blessing the sons of Avraham.
Last week we also spoke about, however briefly, Jacob and how he stole the blessing of his father from under the hands of Essau.
This was so important because the blessing also meant that the heritage was placed upon the shoulders of the person that was blessed.
The Father blessed the sons in order of birth.
The first son was to become the leader of the tribe and the father of the family after his passing.
For daughters it was different, yes you read about somebody saying as in the book of Ruth, God bless you my daughter, but that is, in the same way, is we would say God Bless you.
No, it was different.
A son needs to receive a blessing for life, a daughter however is already highly favored and is automatically under the blessing of the father.
When a girl gets married it is important to know that the man she marries is a godly man and that he has received a blessing in his life.
Because she will be for the rest of her life under the blessing of her husband, and no longer under the blessing of her father.
This is why it is so important for a daughter to have her boyfriend go to her father to have him receive the blessing of him over their relationship.
When a Christian, and godly father sees his daughter date a young man that is not a blessed Christian or as we also know it might happen, someone who knows how to fake it really well, but is not a Christian at heart. Then the Christian father will not give his blessing to that relationship.
No father wants his daughter to be out from under his blessing to be without a blessing.
This is however so, so, so old fashion, and is not understood by many people. It is however still the truth.
So then some of our youngsters might say it is just words.
My answer to this is; “What do you mean just words”.
In the beginning, God said, and it was. Just words?
Words, shape the world, they start wars, they make peace, they initiate relationships, they hurt, they love, they create and they break down.
There is no such thing as “just words”.
Words can as much bless as they can curse.
A curse is the penalty of disobedience, while a blessing is the result of earthly and/or divine favor.
On earth you can be called blessed, by God, you can be blessed.
Proverbs 18:21 (CEB)
21 Death and life are in the power of the tongue; those who love it will eat its fruit.
Pastor Jack Hafort wrote in a Charisma Magazine in June 2012
Build friendships with those who understand our hearts as well as our lips—who truly perceive what we mean when we say the words we say, and relate to us by fully grasping the spirit of our spoken words.
Establish our marriage covenants with an oath, which according to God’s Word is to be an abiding commitment of truthfulness and fidelity and which, if broken, brings a frightening breakdown of the oath’s power.
Teach our children what is right and with those words seek to relay the very principles of God’s order so that His blessing will be advanced and not reversed as they grow from year to year.
In all these regards, life is transmitted, experienced, and multiplied when the tongue speaks its truth and love, while death is inevitable otherwise—through shrinking, withering, suffocating, or killing what should or might have been.
You Have the Power!
Dr. Jack Hayford
And that power of the word we see going throughout the whole bible.
In Genesis 9 Noah blesses Shem and Japheth for their respect.
Genesis 9:26-27 (KJV)
26 And he said, Blessed be the Lord God of Shem, and Canaan shall be his servant.
27 God shall enlarge Japheth, and he shall dwell in the tents of Shem; Canaan shall be his servant.
The priest and king of Jerusalem, Melchizedek blesses Abraham for honoring God for His protection and for Abraham tithing to God instead of giving in to the king of Sodom and the kings of the neighboring cities to take all the riches for himself.
We talked already now twice about the blessing upon Jacob and notwithstanding the twist in this story, the blessing was not just seen as something God would hear and then enforce, but also something that was very determined and solid in a child's life.
Throughout all this, we can see that the principle of blessing the children by the words and hands of the parents is a great privilege that God has provided to the parents.
God has given the parents this privilege to speak a blessing upon the children and with that blessing, to advance life, health, growth, Joy, and self-confidence!!!!
We need as Dr. Hayford says “to steward this privilege as a dynamic aspect of raising our children and blessing them in every way we possibly can.”
Remember the look of your father or mother when you did something right when you were a kid. Do you remember that look of approval?
That is the first thing we need to learn and do, even when it seems so basic and ordinary, we need to make sure that our children, young or even the adults will know that they are loved, and cared for, that they know that they are valued and being looked over.
We can learn so much from God the Father on how to bless and in what way.
The Father puts an arm over the shoulder and embraces us when we are afraid or disappointed.
Deuteronomy 33:27 (CJB)
The God of old is a dwelling-place, with everlasting arms beneath.
He expelled the enemy before you and he said, ‘Destroy!’
Or what about a firm and steady hand to hold, or a pat on the back or shoulder.
Psalm 139:5 (CEB)
you surround me—front and back.  You put your hand on me.
It can also be a whisper in the ear that says, you are going into the right direction, or hey turn the other way, you are not going into the right direction.
Isaiah 30:21 (AMP)
And your ears will hear a word behind you, saying, This is the way; walk in it, when you turn to the right hand and when you turn to the left.
A warm tucking into bed when the darkness of the night is surrounding us.
Psalm 127:2-3 (CEB)
2 It is pointless that you get up early and stay up late, eating the bread of hard labor because God gives sleep to those he loves.
3 No doubt about it: children are a gift from the Lord; the fruit of the womb is a divine reward.
When sitting on the father's knee being comforted or when receiving a kiss on the cheek in comfort we
Psalm 103:13 (AMP)
As a father loves and pities his children, so the Lord loves and pities those who fear Him [with reverence, worship, and awe].
Are being held in tender love and being caressed, which is truly the meaning of the Hebrew word Rawcham, to tenderly love or caress.
As God the Father is THAT loving father to us and wants us to give his blessing, let us then pray this prayer with Dr. Hayford after which we as parents will stand up, lay our hands upon our children and bless them.

“Father, I am astounded that You would confer upon me the overwhelming privilege of being Your representative in both announcing and pronouncing Your blessing upon a child. As I receive this truth, I make this declaration:
“‘You are my God, and it is Your almighty throne I honor in this action of blessing children.
“‘I denounce any notion that my words are the source of the power in this blessing, but I also deny any idea that suggests my words are unimportant in this dramatic transaction.
“‘The fact that You make me Your middle person, reaching to heaven—to Your throne and then to a child, who is Your created wonder and given to me to love and serve—is an awesome wonder in my sight.’
“And so I ask You to help me minister blessings always with the wisdom, faith and gentle grace that will cause the children in my life to know by that blessing how beloved they are by You and by me.

Lyrics by 8th Day Miracles approaching
Wishes unspoken desires unknown
A child cries in the darkness of her own
She's wishing, she hoping, she dreaming of a time
and just to feel a tear of joy
So take this message from me as your miracle is born,
and the answer to your prayers shines tonight
May the heavens swing open, Let all your heart desires Rain down on you - Rain down on you
I lift my hands above your head Your miracles approaching Your tearful eye never dry
Yet behold the sunshine and soon
Dancing to happy news
Early to bed is early to rise
You've seen bad now your waiting for your prize
But you broke on you shattered Life trembled below
and I know how you feel so alone
So take this blessing from me as your miracle is born
and the answer to your prayers shines tonight
I lift my hands above your head Your miracles approaching Your tearful eye never dry
Yet behold the sunshine and soon
We will be dancing to happy news
Yivorechecha Hashem veyismerekha
Yaer Hashem panav elekha
Veyechuneka yissa
Hashem panav elekha veyasem lekha shalom
I lift my hands above your head Your miracles approaching Your tearful eye never dry
Yet behold the sunshine and soon
and soon we all be dancing to happy news
Receive the blessing of the Lord and Soon,
And Yes Real soon, we all be dancing to happy news.
Yevarekhekha Adonai veyishmerakha
yaeir adonai panav eleykha vichunneka
yissa Adonai panav eleykha veyaseim lekha shalom
The Lord bless you and keep you
the Lord make his face to shine upon you and be gracious to you;
The Lord lift up his countenance upon you and give you peace.
